Constitutional Acupuncture Services

Acupuncture is the insertion of “thread-like” needles along energy pathways in the body. Treatments are relaxing, effective, and painless thanks to modern technology. This modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine dates back over 3000 years, and is the fastest growing alternative modality in North America. The Chinese believe that disease is a blockage of energy within the body, and by inserting needles in specific areas, the blockages will be removed, thus bringing the body back to balance and harmony.

All needles are factory produced and sterilized, individually wrapped, and disposed of in a sharps container after use. Treatments are complimented by relaxation aromatherapy, spa music, and vibrational tuning fork therapy. Course of treatment for your concerns will be determined during initial assessment.

What conditions does Acupuncture Treat:

  • Dermatology- Acne, Eczema, Psoriasis, Scar Therapy, Oily/Dry Skin, Rosecea, Hyperpigmentation, Facial Rejuvenation
  • Pain Management, Stress Disorders, Digestion, Respiratory, Gynecology, Men’s Health, Neurology

Natural Alternative Health – Facial Rejuvenation with Acupuncture

Puffiness/Darkness under eyes

Puffiness under the eyes is an indication that there is an imbalance with the water metabolism in the body. It also indicates the local circulation may be impaired. An effective treatment to improve the circulation and balance the water metabolism is Acupuncture. Treatment is based on strengthening the Spleen and Kidney energies, which control the water metabolism. Treatment also includes local acupuncture points to help stimulate the circulation. The acupuncture needles that are utilized are of the highest quality, and also of the finest gauge to allow for pain-free insertion.

Darkness under the eyes also has to do with poor circulation locally. The internal imbalance that creates this concern lies in the Liver energy system in Chinese Medicine. If the health of the Liver is poor, or the energy is stuck or blocked (i.e. due to stress/overwork), one of the first places we will notice this imbalance is under the eyes.

Treatment will include removing Liver energy stagnation/blockage with Acupuncture points on the hands and feet, as well as local points under and around the eyes.

An average course of treatment can range from 5- 15 sessions. Patients find this treatment extremely effective in reducing stress. Home recommendations will also be included in the treatment.

Neck lift

Sagging of the neck and jowls is due to a decreased tonicity of the muscles and skin locally. This may also be due to a tightness of the scalp or jaw, which creates an imbalance within the muscles, and eventually shows on the neck.

Treatment for this problem area is extremely effective with Acupuncture as it has a natural lifting and tightening effect on the neck. Depending on your individual imbalances, specific techniques are utilized locally to improve muscle tone, along with Acupuncture points to help strengthen the elastin and collagen production.

Internally, in Chinese Medical theory, to improve sagging tendencies, we must strengthen the Spleen energy system. By working to strengthen the muscles and tonicity of the skin through specific points on the legs and abdomen, we can see more of a result than just working locally on the neck.

Patients find this treatment extremely relaxing, and also notice improvements with their metabolism and stress level.

An average course of treatment is between 10-15 sessions depending on the individuals age.

Healthy Weight Management

There are many reasons people become overweight – hormone imbalances, slowed metabolism, overeating, poor nutrition and lack of exercise are some of the most common. One extremely effective way to help reduce these imbalances is Acupuncture!

The rationale for using acupuncture for weight control is based in the premise that weight gain could be the result of disturbed energy flow to and from the regulating center of the brain, called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is responsible for maintaining “homeostasis” or functional balance that allows the body to run like a finely tuned instrument. It is the body’s dispatch center that regulates hormones and neurochemicals, and helps to control body temperature, circadian rhythm, thirst and hunger.

Of particular interest is the ability of acupuncture to influence obesity hormones. Research measuring the effectiveness of acupuncture for weight loss found treatments increased ghrelin, a hormone that controls meal initiation and decreased leptin, the hormone that regulates fat storage and metabolism.

The guiding principal is that acupuncture can power up any other weight control strategy by curbing appetite, quelling cravings, boosting metabolism, improving digestion, regulating obesity-related hormones and enhancing the way nutrients are used. It also strengthens the function of the liver, the organ that produces many chemicals critical for digestion, processing nutrients and breaking down of fats. Acupuncture may also increase tone in the smooth muscle of the stomach to help people know that they are full.

Treatment will include body and ear acupuncture, along with dietary recommendations. A course of treatment will be determined during your consultation or initial session.

These treatments are covered through extended health benefits.

Testimonial:

“I have been a patient since fall 2009. I had severe sciatica. After the second treatment I was able to sleep and the pain began to ease. The treatments also reduced most of the numbness in my feet. In fact, one foot is almost fully recovered. With the advice of Julie I also made it through the winter months completely healthy. I have recommended AcuCare to my friends. They have also agreed with me after their treatments.” –Nancy 72
