Cupping: Healing Through Traditional Chinese Medicine

Kelly Osbourne, Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Jessica Simpson, and David Arquette are among the stars who have reportedly embraced this ancient method to relieve tension and improve circulation, along with other symptoms.

How does it work? Pain and illness stem from the stagnation of circulation in the muscles and body tissue. Cupping improves circulation in these areas, alleviating pain and often helping underlying health issues.

Cupping involves applying glass cups to the body. A burning cotton ball that has been soaked in alcohol is waved through the cup to create a vacuum. You do not feel the heat, but you will feel the cup pull up on the skin.

Once attached, the cups will be left on for 5 to 20 minutes, and removed by pressing down on the skin to let the air out. The cups may leave a mark on the body, which can last for 2 to 12 days depending on the condition. This is a useful diagnostic tool! The mark indicates how much stagnation there is in the muscles.

Cupping helps such issues as generalized pain, injuries of the back/shoulders/neck, herniated discs, disc degeneration, arthritis, and other conditions like asthma, colds and flus, insomnia, detoxification, weight loss, and other concerns.
