How to Get Your Skin Glowing

Glowing Skin Laser Therapy in Vancouver

This is a guest post from Susan Mohammad, writer and communications professional.

Two years ago, I showed up at Pure Light Laser Skin & Body Clinic ready to spend hundreds on facial treatments I had heard about. Instead I was quickly shown the door (sort of).

Back then Rita (skin fairy and clinic owner), took a close look at my early 30s face and said, “you don’t need anything more than a good facial. Come back and see me in a couple years.”

I was shocked. Who hasn’t been to a consultation and pressured into buying expensive services or products they didn’t need? Or worse — gone home with unnecessary insecurities? After giving me a microdermabrasion and vitamin C facial that painlessly removed the top layer of skin to reveal a smooth, clean and glowing one underneath I went home, blown away by Rita’s honesty.

Reversing Sun Damage

Last summer I came back to Rita. It had been a couple years and I was beginning to see sun spots from not wearing any sunscreen as a teenager or in my 20s on my cheeks and nose. Overall I’m very happy with my skin, but I wanted to correct this small amount of damage before it got any worse or more expensive to treat. There were also a couple scars and a little redness forming around my nose that I wanted evened out. Rita listened to my concerns, answered my questions and was very personable and knowledgeable.

Intense Pulse Light

A few of my friends who work in TV or as influencers have had great results with Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments, and Rita agreed that if I wanted to even out my skin tone and reverse sun damage that two to three treatments would cover it. Another upside of this treatment is that it shrinks your pores for a few weeks so I could also expect to get a little of my friend Christie’s porcelain finish (my friend is so gorgeous both on the inside and out that it’s slightly annoying). The treatment also helps reduce fine lines and stimulate collagen.

We first prepped my skin with the facial I had two years ago (which has become my favourite), and booked my first treatment for 10 days later. This is to ensure your skin hasn’t been exposed to the sun before the treatment, and I promised to use a hat and sunscreen as Rita instructed.

First IPL Session

The treatment itself felt like warm rubber bands snapping my skin but wasn’t painful. In all the session lasted about 45 minutes. I booked mine over my lunch, concerned there would be a little redness to deal with for the rest of the day but I was fine to go back to work without makeup and with minimal redness. I don’t have sensitive skin, but if you do you may prefer to book a treatment after work or on a weekend. That afternoon a coworker and the person shipping my package at the post office asked where they could get the same glow!

It’s been less than a week since my first treatment and I have already seen results that are better than I expected. In my next post I will go over these changes in detail. Until then I am looking forward to seeing Rita again for my next treatment and to learn more about my skin and how to take care of it.
